George Dawson was my GG-grandfather. His parents were Thomas Dawson and Mary Ann Garner. Born in Renhold, Bedfordshire, England in 1847, he came to Australia with his parents, siblings and other relatives aboard the Equestrian in 1848. They departed Plymouth, England on 8 March and arrived at Sydney, New South Wales on July 16.

The family settled in Sandy Creek, Guyra soon after with George growing up and meeting Margaret Cameron who he married in 1880.

George selected land at Maybole to the South-West of Glen Innes where he and Margaret raised a family on their property called Hedgeroy from the mid-1890s. George died on 15 April 1925.

The database from which this site was created was originally going to contain all the ancestors, aunts, uncles, cousins, etc of George and Margaret's daughter, Janet Cameron Dawson, my great-grandmother. However, before I'd even completed the stuff on HER great-grandparents, Thomas Dawson and Elizabeth Hare, I knew I'd need to split the work up, stick to the Dawsons and come back and do new databases and then websites for the maternal line at each of a few generations.

ie. George's wife, Margaret Cameron. His mother, Mary Ann Garner, wife of Thomas Dawson (b. 1825). His grandmother, Elizabeth Hare, wife of Thomas Dawson (b. 1801). "Some time", maybe later in 2013, I will finalise those three as separate databases and add them to the internet to aid others in their research.

I have done my best to be as accurate as possible throughout but do acknowledge there may be a few errors. So, please, confirm details with other sources online and offline if you are in any doubt before blindly adding stuff to your own genealogy.

Finally, I put a HUGE amount of time into this particular site...much more than the ones I put up in 2011. Please respect my efforts. Where possible, link to this site rather than copying and creating duplicate content.
